Using Goal Guide and My Life for IEP Planning

In the past few years I have used Goal Guide app for many of my escapades, a job interview, presentations, and setting goals of course. The Cognitopia website has helped me exponentially with these ventures and I hope they will help you with yours.

In February 2016 I presented at the Oregon Association of Vocational and Special Needs Personnel conference with Tom Keating of Cognitopia and Josh Barbour of 4J Connections. Tom and Josh presented the in’s and out’s of Cognitopia while I demonstrated my personal Goal Guide and My Life accounts.

I told the audience about my classes, school experiences, and public speaking experience. I also shared how I use My Life for my IEP. While creating my IEP, Josh and I mapped out all the rivers and avenues of my IEP so that the people who attended my IEP team meeting could read what I wrote down and learn of the things that I achieved.
If I am being completely honest with myself and everyone reading this blog, I don’t use Goal Guide or My Life much beyond vital stuff like the job interviews, my IEP, and school documentation.

I don’t use them much because what I want is always evident to me. But if it isn’t clear to you, then you might find this site useful. In the future, I will need to record more information for my independent life and that will include using Goal Guide and My Life more often.

Davan OvertonWhere do I start with my biography? The beginning, I guess. I was born on February 1996. My parents and doctors thought I was normal at first. But after my parents noticed that I was developing at a slower pace then most infants they took me into the doctors once again. There they found a Dandy Walker tumor on the back of my spine. The doctors gave me three years. During those three years, as if by a miracle, my tumor dried up and became inactive. After school was when I really started to excel. I became more social, I got this amazing job and I’m public speaking—yep life has become pretty good.
